Matariki

Over the past week we have been learning about Matariki.
To celebrate Matariki today we learned to weave with harakeke (flax) with Room 7.
Before we began we discussed the tikanga when using harakeke and leaned a new karakia.
We have a few pieces each to take home and share.

I loved the flax flowers Sophie bought home. They were amazing. We are going to have to get hold of some flax so she can teach me. Well done Room 1

  3. We loved the flowers everyone made. Flax flowers seems to be a popular thing to weave for Matariki. I remember doing this in room 7, it was enjoyable. Who do you think everyone else gave their flowers to?

I loved your Matariki posters Room 1 because everyone put a lot of effort into their facts and designs. Did you know that the Seven Sisters don't just have Maori names they also have English names too. It reminds me when I went Rotorua and I saw the seven sisters. Has anyone in Room 1 seen the Seven Sisters?
